<description>&lt;div align=&quot;justify&quot;&gt;Just thought you would all like to know that Brian is now at home nursing his breaks and bruises following his fight with a quad at Whiteway Barton on Sunday (April 6th) which he lost.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;As my two daughters, Valerie and Melanie have posted on the forum; Brian sustained a broken collar bone and a broken back rib, both on his left side. His shoulder and arm are black and blue now that the bruising is coming out. He&amp;rsquo;s still a bit wobbly on his feet but quick with the wit as always. Let&amp;rsquo;s hope the bang on the head knocked a bit of sense in and not out.&lt;br&gt;He&amp;rsquo;s not a very good patient but I&amp;rsquo;ll have to keep my cool and do my best to help him get fit and well. How are we going to get the caravan and everything else to the events!&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Brian doesn&amp;rsquo;t remember anything about the accident, which is just as well as, by all accounts it was pretty spectacular. Luckily I didn&amp;rsquo;t witness it either otherwise I would have been a nervous wreck.  &lt;br&gt;If anyone would like to come and see Brian they will be very welcome but please ring first. Our number is on the contacts page.&lt;br&gt;We will both be at the Whiteway Barton round on the 20th, so, if we don&amp;rsquo;t see you before we&amp;rsquo;ll see you then.&lt;br&gt;All joking aside we would both like to thank everyone for their concern and for their best wishes. They are all very much appreciated and go to show the camaraderie we have in this great series. We count you all as friends. &lt;br&gt;We would also like to thank Martin and his team at Met Services and the Paramedics for their prompt and efficient attention at the scene. We are sure this went a long way to speed up the recovery time. We have always had great confidence in their ability and this was proved correct on Sunday.  Also, anyone else who helped in any way.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Changing the subject and just to let you know the regulations for the next two rounds have gone out, late I know and my apologies for that. Perhaps I shouldn&amp;rsquo;t have gone on holiday. <description>&lt;div align=&quot;center&quot;&gt;What a miserable start to the Season!  The weather really has been a curse, but I have to say thank you to all of you for bearing with us.  Judging by the comments on the website you appreciate the work that goes on behind the scenes and that is really gratifying.  We will continue to do our best and let&amp;rsquo;s hope the worst is now over and sunshine is on the way!&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Before I start on my review of 2008 so far, there are a few things I would like to point out to riders, and at the risk of repeating myself, would you please, please check the entry form to see who you should be sending it to.  It is not always the same person. Everything you need to know is on the paperwork somewhere, please take a little time to read it through before filling it in.  Also please send the fee with the entry form.  If you can&amp;rsquo;t get to the event just let us know, several days in advance if possible, and we will shred your cheque.  Nothing gets banked until after the event.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Can you also please make sure you send a self addressed and stamped envelope (sae) with your entry &amp;mdash; you cannot expect to get confirmation of your entry without doing that.  Please complete the entry form with ALL your details.  Some we&amp;rsquo;ve received were woefully short &amp;mdash; some with no address on them, no telephone number and even the wrong telephone number.  This has been acerbated by the fact that two events have had to be called off and it was impossible for us to reach some of you riders to let you know.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;We are working behind the scenes to try and reschedule the Little Silver and the Landrake events that unfortunately had to be cancelled &amp;mdash; and be sure that if we can &amp;mdash; we will!  All the cheques we received for these events have been shredded, and if the events can be re-arranged, then new regulations will be published.  Watch this space and the website for news of this.&lt;br&gt;We have been looking at the best way to inform riders of cancellations, because the decision inevitably is made at the very last minute and so far the website has served us well proving to be the most effective method.  Of course , the old jungle drums work equally well and thanks to those of you who&amp;rsquo;ve rung round your mates.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;What a dreadful start to the season we&amp;rsquo;ve had! &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;(like you need telling again)&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Round 1 was abandoned after two blocks and rounds two and three cancelled! and all because of this awful English weather, which has become so unpredictable.  I can&amp;rsquo;t remember such a bad start to the series in the eight years we have been with Remedies Bar.&lt;br&gt;However, although it seems an age away now, we did manage to run Round 1 at Garlands Moor near Holsworthy in North Devon at the beginning of March.  It was quite a trek for the majority of the riders who were there in force as we had an entry of 200.  A lot of rain had fallen prior to the event and the decision to introduce transponders for the series proved a Godsend straight away.  There were the inevitable teething problems with the new timing system but these were soon sorted and all in all, the day went well in the commentary box.  A long delay was caused for track repairs and with the skies getting darker the decision was made to run two blocks instead of three.  That turned out to be the right decision as the rain came in during the last few races.&lt;br&gt;The Remedies Bar organising Committee would like to thank Mr Roy Humphrey of the National Motocross Committee and Reinier and Jeronen from AMB.it, the company who supplied the equipment, for their invaluable help on the day.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Our two Expert defending Champions started off in good form.  John May was heavily challenged in the Open class by both Kip Herring and Luke Mellows in both races with the lead swapping several times.  Danial Preston had two convincing wins in the 125 class.&lt;br&gt;The Petersen Racing Junior Championship saw some good racing between Scott Williams, Wayne Butt, Kelvin Townsend, Tom Moore and Jason Fraser with Scott Williams coming out the best overall.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Gary Down made a good start to his first season in the Phoenix Tools over 35 with two wins.  David Ford and Shaun Brooker had a cracking second race with Ford getting the better of Brooker at the end of the race.  The defending Champion, Sean O&amp;rsquo;Neill, had an indifferent start to the season but managed to score 25 useful Championship points.&lt;br&gt;OK! &amp;mdash; What&amp;rsquo;s next!&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;We are all now looking forward to Round 4 on April 20th at Whiteway Barton, Kingsteignton and Round 5 at a new venue for us near Wainhouse Corner on April 27th.  I think most people know how to get to Whiteway which will be signed off the A380 between Exeter and Torquay.  To get to the Wainhouse Corner track you have to travel down the A30 to just past Launceston.  Just after Tregadillet turn off onto the A395 signposted to Pipers Pool/Hallworthy.  At Hallworthy take the B3262 (the route will be signed from here) to the A39.  Turn right to Wainhouse Corner and then right again just past the Pub.  Racing at both these events starts at approx 11.00 am. Practice starts at 9.30.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;More details of the route will be sent with the acceptance of your entry and will also be posted on the website.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The entry forms for these two events are within this newsletter and also there are regulations for the Torridge Clubs Sidecar British Championship event on May 4th. A lot of rain had fallen prior to the event and the decision to introduce transponders for the series came into use straight away as things were a bit slippery and the mud was clinging to the bikes (without transponders we wouldn&amp;rsquo;t have a &amp;ldquo;glue&amp;rdquo; who was who)  Unfortunately, because of the wet conditions a lot of track maintenance was needed and we were way behind schedule so the decision was made by Valerie Jarret, our newly qualified clerk of the course to cancel the last block of racing as it would be getting dark.  As usual for the opening round, entries were full right up in all classes, and that included more than 40 Experts, so the Open and 125 races were run separately. &lt;br&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;div align=&quot;justify&quot;&gt;In the Expert Open Class, the defending Champion John May got his 2008 campaign off to a flying start by winning both races, but he was forced to work hard in both of them.  Jamie Skuse had a blinder of a start in the first race and held the lead for a couple of laps, but he was being pressured all the way by May, who on lap 3 finally forced his 450f Suzuki to the front jumping the double.  New comer to the Championship Luke Mellows was soon to get in the thick of it and passed Skuse on lap 4 and was then on a charge.  By the halfway mark he caught May and was climbing all over him with May resisting everything Mellows threw at him until lap 9 when he powered his KTM past down one of the straights and took the lead.  However, this was short lived as May came right back on the next lap and went on to take the win.  In race 2 it was May with a blistering start followed by Kip Herring and Mellows who were both in a real hurry and were determined not to let May get away.  Herring made a move on May in lap 4 and took the lead, and on the next lap Mellows also passed May, and was to pass Herring 2 laps later to take the lead, but he couldn&amp;rsquo;t get away.  Skuse was on a mission and he was closing fast on May who was told to get a move on which he did on lap 8 passing Herring and within a further 2 laps he shot pass Mellows as well to regain the lead and went on to take the chequered flag with Skuse pipping Herring on the last lap to finish 3rd. &lt;br&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;div align=&quot;justify&quot;&gt;There was no stopping defending Champion Daniel Preston in the Expert 125 class and Kawasaki mounted, he was on a mission and once he hit the front he had a clear track in front of him, and he too opened his 2008 campaign with two convincing wins.  In the first Expert 125 race it was Lee Skinner with the best start but he had a bit to much speed in to the first corner and slid off so it was last years runner up Ben Griffith who took over at the front and tried to get away, but Preston was now in 2nd and he was sticking with him like glue!  On lap 2 Preston got the inside line on a lefthander and hit the front, but there was a close battle between Griffith and Darren Shears in the closing stages and this was also the case in race 2 with Shears in a tussle with Luke Hill, but it was Hill who finished victorious in 2nd with Terry House getting the better of Griffith to take a well deserved 4th.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;div align=&quot;justify&quot;&gt;The Phoenix Tools over 35 Championship races saw two wins for Gary Down who seemed to relish the slippery conditions.  Defending Champion Sean O&amp;rsquo;Neill took a tumble on the opening lap when he got cross rutted on one of the jumps so had it all to do, but it was Rob Lewis who after not the best of starts set out on a mission clawing his way from 8th after the first lap to finish a brilliant 2nd.  In race 2 there was some really close racing between David Ford and Shaun Brooker with both swapping positions all the time, but in the end it was Ford who took 2nd behind Down.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;In the opening &amp;ldquo;Petersen Racing&amp;rdquo; Junior Championship race it was Tom Moore with the best start and he led for the first 3 laps, but on lap 4 he was being pushed by Scott Williams and it was Williams who took the lead and started to pull away.  Wayne Butt also passed Moore and moved in to 2nd but even a rider with his experience didn&amp;rsquo;t have any answer to Williams.  Eventually Butt called off the chase and dropped back after Kelvin Townsend caught and passed him, and a late surge from Jason Fraser and Mark Williams moved them up to 3rd and 4th respectively both passing Butt on the last lap.  In race 2 it was Ken Fuller who took the early lead with Williams and Butt tucked in behind.  Williams was all over Fuller on lap 3 and got the better of him going over the whoops, but it wasn&amp;rsquo;t until lap 5 that Butt found a way past so Williams was able to get away unchallenged and went on to notch up his second win.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br&gt;</description>
